Aruba is one of the most visitor-friendly islands in the Caribbean, but there are a few entry requirements you must complete before and upon arrival. This guide covers everything you need to know.
The ED card — mandatory for all visitors
All visitors must complete the Aruba Embarkation/Disembarkation (ED) card online before arrival. The form collects basic personal information, travel details, and health declarations. It must be completed within 72 hours before your flight.
The ED card is free and takes about 5 minutes to complete at edcardaruba.aw. You will receive a QR code by email — save it on your phone or print it. Immigration officers scan the QR code on arrival; you do not need to fill in a paper form.
Visa requirements
Citizens of the United States, Canada, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and most Latin American countries can visit Aruba visa-free for up to 30 days (extendable to 90 days). Dutch citizens can stay indefinitely as Aruba is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Citizens of some countries require a visa in advance. Check the official DIMAS website or contact the nearest Dutch embassy for your nationality's requirements. Visa applications are processed by DIMAS in Oranjestad.
What to bring
Valid passport with at least 6 months validity beyond your intended stay. Return or onward ticket. Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host's address). Sufficient funds for your stay (immigration officers may ask). ED card QR code.
You do not need to show proof of travel insurance, though it is strongly recommended. Aruba's healthcare system does not cover tourists, and medical costs can be significant.
Customs rules
Duty-free allowances for visitors: 1 liter of spirits, 2 liters of wine, 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars, and personal goods up to AWG 500 in value. Amounts above these limits are subject to import duty.
Prohibited items include: fresh fruits and vegetables (agricultural restrictions), firearms and ammunition without prior authorization, and controlled substances. Prescription medications should be carried in original packaging with a doctor's note.
At the airport
Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA) is modern and efficient. Immigration queues are usually short. After clearing immigration, collect your luggage and proceed through customs. The green channel (nothing to declare) is available for most visitors.
Taxis are available outside arrivals. The fixed rate to most hotels in the Palm Beach area is $25–35. Rental car desks are in the arrivals hall. There is no public bus service directly from the airport.
